Through the Fundación El Terreno, we deliver a variety of social and environmental projects to help improve the quality of life of rural Andean communities, while preserving culture and regenerating ecosystems.

Children & Young People
Educational & confidence building activities to give them the best start in life - one in which they have the skills and self-belief that they can be the designers of their destiny.
Adults
Training and knowledge in agriculture and business to assist them towards economic prosperity for themselves and their families.
Elderly & Disabled
Installing smokeless stoves and supporting essential services such as the local health centre and governmental inclusion initiatives, to the most vulnerable and excluded from society.

The Challenges Faced
40% of the rural population surrounding the town of Guaranda, Ecuador lives in poverty. Due to the lack of employment, education, infrastructure and healthcare, the area has high rates of issues such as child malnutrition (48%), teenage pregnancy (26%) & illiteracy (10%).
90% of the rural communities are indigenous, but their culture and language is under threat, as many young people abandon their culture and leave for the cities in search of a better life.
What We're Doing
At El Terreno, we're building a centre of cultural exchange and social innovation, where we bring together local Ecuadorians and others from around the world through sustainable tourism, culture, education and ecology – to create a more meaningful, sustainable and prosperous world.
We work with international volunteers, interns and the local community to deliver a variety of initiatives to address the needs of these marginalised rural population.
We have impacted hundreds of lives with over 150 community workshops and events since starting in July 2021.
